ATLANTA JUNIOR GOLF ADDS 16 MEMBERS TO ATLANTA-KAUAI TEAM CHALLENGE SQUAD
CANONGATE-ON-WHITE OAK TO PLAY HOST TO EVENT

MARIETTA, Ga. – When the Atlanta-Kauai Team Challenge returns to Georgia in November, the Atlanta Junior Golf Association will attempt to re-capture the cup from the Kauai Junior Golf Association with a new team at the prestigious Canongate-on-White Oak in Newnan, Ga.

After two rounds of qualifying at Stone Mountain Golf Club's Stonemont Course last week, Team Atlanta qualified 16 team members for its annual tournament with its Hawaiian counterparts. Thirteen boys and three girls, representing four main divisions (Girls 7-18, Boys 12 & Under, Boys 13-14 and Boys 15-18), will represent the Atlanta squad.

In the Boys 15-18 division, Griffin's Byron Kenney earned top honors and led all players shooting 75-76 (151) over two days. He is joined by returning member Anthony Amodeo and Ross Thomson – both from Marietta – Cedartown's Beau Gammage and Greensboro's David Kalpak. (Full Leaderboard Results are listed below.)

In the Boys 13-14 division, Suwanee's Garrett Marshke shot 2-over 142 and led all division players. He will be joined by two returning Team Atlanta members, Griffin's Carson Willis and Atlanta's Tripp H'Doubler. Harrison Stewart, after winning a two-hole playoff against Talbott Zink for the fifth division spot, will join fellow Roswell resident Matthew Cribb.

The Boys 12 & Under division was paced by Buster Bruton, from Dallas, who shot 1-over 143. He will be joined by teammates Nick Fazio, from Carrollton, and Sean Murphy, from Decatur. The Girls 7-18 division will be represented by one returning member and two new players. Alpharetta's Emily Kurey, who performed well in 2007 Atlanta-Kauai matches, will be joined by Rinko Mitsunaga, from Roswell, and Nicole Cosentino, from Stone Mountain.

Team Atlanta will qualify four more players at the end of the summer, including three Girls 7-18 division players and one Boys 12 & Under division player.

The Atlanta-Kauai Team Challenge is a Ryder Cup-style, match-play tournament, pitting boys and girls from the Atlanta Junior Golf Association against the Kauai Junior Golf Association. This year's tournament will be held at Canongate-on-White Oak, in Newnan, November 28-29. Day One will feature four ball and foursome matches, while Day Two will be highlighted by individual match play.
____________________________________________________________

The 2008 Team Challenge is scheduled to occur over the Thanksgiving holiday (November 25-30) at Canongate-on-White Oak in Newnan. Participants in the qualifier: 1) MUST be available to participate during this time frame and 2) MUST volunteer to host at least two junior golfers from Hawaii overnight in their home for the duration of the event OR volunteer for at least one full tournament or outside event day.

The Atlanta-Kauai Team Challenge is a match play event in which 20 juniors from Atlanta Junior Golf and 20 juniors from Kauai Junior Golf compete for the coveted Cup. Alternating the location each year gives each team the opportunity to host the event while giving the juniors a chance to experience the different cultures of Atlanta, Georgia and Kauai, Hawaii. A two-day, 36-hole qualifier is conducted to determine Team Atlanta. This event is open to junior golfers in the 18-Hole Division only.
